BIOGRAPHY
Miguel Leyva, also known as "Frunkyman," is an accomplished composer, orchestrator, and songwriter with a diverse portfolio spanning film, television, and live performance. His Hollywood career includes contributions as a composer assistant on blockbuster projects like Mission: Impossible, and as a studio musician on critically acclaimed series such as Genius for National Geographic and The Cry from the BBC. Miguel's talents extend to the gaming industry, where he provided additional music and arrangements for FIFA 19, and he has served as the main composer for numerous indie films and documentaries, including Humanity Stoked, This is Football, and Immortality of the Conscious. His versatility as a musician is further demonstrated by his work as a studio bassist and classical guitarist for the Netflix anime Drifting Dragons.
Beyond his work in media, Miguel is the creative force behind Frunkyman, a groundbreaking 7-piece power funk group that is transforming the Bay Area music scene. With their innovative sound and engaging Frunkyman lore, the band has captured the imagination of audiences and reshaped the social landscape. Their notable performances include the San Jose Jazz Summer Fest, and Miguel has also won the prestigious New Works Fest award. He holds the distinction of being the first artist-in-residence at the San Jose Museum of Art and the current Artist Resident at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.
In addition to his performance career, Miguel Leyva is the founder of Ephramusique, a production company that specializes in crafting custom music for films, documentaries, series, and other multimedia projects. Under his leadership, Ephramusique has become a go-to resource for high-quality music arranging, orchestrating, and producing.
Miguel's academic credentials include a degree in Media Music Composition from California State University, Northridge, and a Master’s degree in Jazz Performance from San Jose State University. He is also deeply involved in his community as the Music Director at IDDER Church Spanish in Hayward, CA.
